Though the 2024 WNBA Draft is done, the hype continues. The Indiana Fever shattered a record by selecting Iowa guard Caitlin Clark first. New talented players entered the league. WNBA fans were enthusiastic about more than Clark. Many athletes wanted to make an impact in this year’s draft.
Looking Back at Draft
On April 15, 2024, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, fans attended the draft for the first time since 2016. Normalcy returned. Commissioner Cathy Engelbert welcomed the next generation of WNBA stars. A brief review:

Top 10 Bowing Prospects
Indiana Fever drafted guard Caitlin Clark in the first round. Clark was widely selected as the first pick and is a scoring machine with infinite offensive weapons. She gives the Indiana Fever quick offense and star appeal with the most NCAA points.
Stanford forward Cameron Brink was picked second by the Sparks. The Sparks add Brink to improve their frontcourt. He defends well and is improving his scoring. Her stature and shot-blocking will annoy opponents.
South Carolina centre Kamilla Cardoso was selected by the Chicago Sky in the third round. Cardoso can run the rim and energize the Sky’s rebounds and blocking. She and the existing champions may be crucial to winning again.
Forward Rickea Jackson from Tennessee (Picked fourth by the Los Angeles Sparks) enters to help Brittney Sykes and other attacking players. Jackson is a talented scorer and post player.
The Dallas Wings drafted Ohio State guard Jacy Sheldon in the first round. Sheldon is a scoring guard who shoots well. She provides crucial Wings attack firepower.
Besides the Top 5
After the first few picks, the draft was talented. A few more might make a tremendous difference:
UConn forward Aaliyah Edwards was drafted sixth by the Washington Mystics. Edwards deepens and speeds up the Mystics. Versatile forward with good inside-outside game.
The Chicago Sky selected LSU forward Angel Reese eighth overall. Due to his post strength and scoring ability, Reese could be a useful Sky reserve.
The Utah Jazz drafted forward Alissa Pili in the eighth round. Pili gives the Lynx more offensive options and court space as a skilled scorer and three-point shooter.
French guard Carla Leite, drafted ninth by the Dallas Wings: Smart point guard Leite makes plays. His passing and style are foreign to the Wings.
The New York Liberty selected Ole Miss forward Marquesha Davis 10th overall. Davis defends well and is improving offensively. He may aid Liberty’s defense.
A bright future awaits the WNBA.
