The net worth of former professional basketball player Delonte West is $1,000. During his career, West earned around $14 million in salary according to Celebrity Net Worth. However, in recent years he has faced financial hardship and personal struggles. In this article we talk about Delonte West Net Worth In 2024.

Early Life and College Career

Delonte West was born on July 26, 1983 in Washington, D.C. He attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Maryland before going to Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia for college. At St. Joe’s, West formed an impressive backcourt duo with Jameer Nelson. Together, they led the Hawks on a Cinderella run to the Elite Eight in the 2004 NCAA Tournament.

West declared for the 2004 NBA Draft after his junior season. He was selected with the 24th overall pick by the Boston Celtics.

NBA Career

West played three seasons for the Celtics as a combo guard. He averaged over 10 points per game before being traded to the Seattle SuperSonics in 2007. After playing just a few months in Seattle, West was part of a three-team trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2008.

West found his greatest individual and team success as a member of the LeBron James-led Cavaliers from 2008 to 2010. He signed a three-year $12.7 million contract in 2008. As a Cavalier, West proved to be a versatile defender and dangerous three-point shooter. He helped the team make deep playoff runs, including an appearance in the 2010 Eastern Conference Semifinals.

After two and a half seasons in Cleveland, West was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2010. He was then waived a few months later after pleading guilty to weapons charges stemming from a 2009 traffic stop.

Looking for another chance in the NBA, West signed with the Dallas Mavericks for the 2011-2012 season. He played a reserve role as the Mavericks went on to win the 2011 NBA Championship. However, after that season West was out of the league for good.

Post-NBA Struggles

After last playing in the NBA in 2012, West looked to continue his basketball career playing overseas. He had stints in China and the NBA D-League but could not stick anywhere for long.

In 2016, photos emerged showing West looking homeless and destitute around the streets of Houston. It was later revealed he was struggling with bipolar disorder. Concerned friends and former teammates, including Jameer Nelson, attempted to get West professional help and support.

For the next several years, West bounced between rehabilitation clinics, homelessness and run-ins with the law. His divorce, mental health issues and lack of post-career planning clearly led him down a troubling path.

In 2020, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban found West wandering around a Dallas-area gas station without shoes. Cuban got West temporary housing and helped enroll him in a Florida drug rehabilitation program. Initially West appeared to be turning his life around while working at the rehab facility.

However, in October 2021 West was arrested in Boynton Beach, Florida for trespassing and burglary. He was reportedly seen wandering aimlessly around the city in the days prior. It was another sad setback in West’s efforts to get his life back on track.

While Delonte West earned around $16 million total during his eight-year NBA career, almost all of that money appears to be gone today. Poor financial planning, mental health struggles, and reckless spending seem to have led to his current dire situation. Hopefully West can get the serious long-term help and support system he needs before it is too late. I sincerely hope you find this “Delonte West Net Worth In 2024?
